Little Guy Tie with a 3-D Effect

I've been loving all of these little guy ties that I've been seeing around but I wanted mine to look a little more 3-D.  I didn't like how it looked like a sticker stuck on the onsie or tee, you know what I mean?  So here's what I came up with:

Anyways, here is my tutorial.  It's a fast and easy project even for a pretty inexperienced seamstress like myself.

Supplies:
- Cute fabric for the tie (and not very much of it as you can see)
- Coordinating felt for underneath (I used white) and thread (again white in my case)
- Onsie
- Basic sewing supplies

Steps:
1) Use the pattern attached here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/zfmytnynmzz/TiePattern[1].pdf to cut out your tie.  As you can see there is a 1/4 inch seam allowance and I have shown you where to make slits/cut outs to make your tie lay flat.
2) Once you have cut out your tie and made the appropriate slits, use a seam guage to fold your seam allowance over (at 1/4 inch) and iron flat so your tie will look like this:

3) I pinned my tie to my felt to ensure I got a perfect fit, but you could also cut the outer edge off the pattern and use that if you were worried about accidently cutting into your tie.

4) Once I had my tie cut out I wanted to make the top curvy parts lay perfectly flat so I ironed some more but it still wasn't working in those top corners and then I saw the mod podge :)  I just put a little dab in between the fabric and the felt and smoothed it just how I wanted it.  It worked perfectly!
5) Now it's time to pin your tie onto your onsie or tee.  I actually found a neat trick while I was doing this because I was doing it on a bed.  I always accidently slide things out of place when I am putting the first pin in, so I stuck a couple pins straight down into the bed (not sure if you would want to do that too often lol) to hold it in place while I put other pins in it.  If you don't have that problem though, just proceed as normal.
6) Now to sew it on.  Sew close to the edge, following it to keep a straight line.  Start in the left corner where the tie meets the "knot" and go around the whole "knot."  At this point you can remove most of your pins but keep one in there somewhere so the tie doesn't end up crooked.  Then proceed down the right side of the tie, all the way around, and back up to where you began.  Finish off and that's it, you're done!!!
This was a pretty cheap project!  I got the fabric when JoAnn's was having a fabric sale and as you can see it doesn't even take very much.  And I got a 5 pack of onsies at Walmart for just a few dollars.  And isn't it cute?!  I think the 3-D effect that the felt gives it makes a HUGE difference vs the kind that is just stuck on with wonder-under.
